How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your hourly wage.
  2. Set the hours you work per week. Full-time is usually 40.
  3. Set paid weeks per year: 52 if you get paid vacation, fewer if you take unpaid time off.
  4. Read your pay for each period in the table, before tax and as an estimated take-home.

How it's calculated

Yearly salary = hourly wage × hours per week × weeks per year

A quick rule of thumb for full-time work: double your hourly wage and add three zeros. $25 an hour × 2,080 hours (40 × 52) = $52,000 a year.

Frequently asked questions

How many working hours are in a year?

A full-time schedule of 40 hours a week for 52 weeks is 2,080 hours. If you take two weeks unpaid, it's 2,000 hours.

Is biweekly the same as twice a month?

No. Biweekly means every two weeks, which is 26 paychecks a year. Twice a month (semimonthly) is 24 paychecks. Biweekly paychecks are slightly smaller, but you get two extra a year.
