Tip calculator

Calculate the tip and total for any bill, split it between any number of people, and compare tips from 10% to 25%.

Work out the tip, the total and each person's share in seconds, with the option to round up so nobody has to deal with coins.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the bill amount.
  2. Choose a tip percentage.
  3. Enter how many people are splitting the bill.
  4. Optionally round each share up to the nearest dollar.

How it's calculated

Tip = bill × tip% ÷ 100

Each person pays (bill + tip) ÷ number of people. A quick way to tip 20%: move the decimal point one place left and double it. On $45, that's $4.50 × 2 = $9.

Should I tip on the total before or after tax?

Traditionally the tip is calculated on the pre-tax amount, but many people tip on the total for simplicity. The difference is small.
